About copper jugs and tamra jal

In Ayurveda, water stored in a copper vessel is known as tamra jal, and many families in India follow the custom of keeping drinking water in copper overnight. Copper jugs have long been part of Indian homes for storing and serving water. This product is a drinkware item and not a medicine; if you have a medical condition, check with your doctor about your daily copper intake.

Use & care

Fill the jug with plain, room-temperature drinking water. Avoid storing lemon juice, fruit juice, carbonated drinks, milk or other acidic liquids in it, as they react with copper. Wash by hand with mild soap and a soft cloth, then dry fully. To brighten the colour, rub with a cut lemon and a little salt, rinse well and dry. Do not use a dishwasher, and do not heat the jug on a flame. Natural darkening over time is normal and can be cleaned.

Frequently asked questions

Which size should I choose?
The jug is available in numbered sizes 3, 4, 5 and 6. The higher the number, the larger the jug, so choose the one that suits the number of people in your home.

Does it come with a lid?
Yes, the jug has a fitted copper lid with a knob.

Can I put hot or acidic drinks in it?
No. Use plain room-temperature water only, and avoid lemon, juice, carbonated drinks and milk.

Is it pure copper?
Yes, it is a 100% pure copper jug. Copper darkens naturally with time and use, which is easily cleaned with lemon and salt.
