Care guide
Simple ways to keep brass, copper and pooja pieces looking their best.
Brass
Brass darkens slowly with time, heat and the oils on your hands. This is natural. To bring back the shine, rub gently with a soft cloth and a little lemon with salt or tamarind, rinse well and dry at once.
Copper
Copper darkens in the same way. Use lemon with salt or tamarind, then rinse and dry. Copper vessels should be washed well before they hold water or prasad.
Pieces with a coating
If a piece has a lacquer or a coated finish, wipe it with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth only. Strong polish can take the coating off.
Diyas and lamps
Let the ghee, oil or wax cool, then wipe it out with a soft cloth. Wash with mild soap and warm water, and dry fully before putting away.
Malas and beads
Keep malas dry and away from soap, perfume and oil. Store them in a clean cloth pouch when you are not using them.
Storing
Keep pieces in a dry place, wrapped in a soft cloth, away from damp.
